One of my favourite TED talks is by Brene’ Brown (2010) on The Power of Vulnerability. Her talk highlights the importance of connection with others and how this creates meaning and purpose. She also shares how the emotions of shame, fear, and unworthiness unravels the ability to connect, “Is there something about me that if other people know it or see it, that I won’t be worthy of connection” (Brene’ Brown, 2010). She goes on to highlight that it is shame, fear and unworthiness that underpin vulnerability. This idea emphasises that for connection with others, we have to allow ourselves to be really seen. It’s not easy to be vulnerable – trust me, I know from my own life experiences, however what her research found is that vulnerability is also the birthplace of joy, creativity, belonging and love.
Check out her TED talk below, I would love to hear your thoughts.
